Biography
Matt Delk, born in 1986 in Hampton, Virginia, is a contemporary artist and writer residing and working in Hampton, Virginia. Delk is a self-taught artist, having studied different works of many artists over the years. As a result, his artistic practice and art criticism are strongly intertwined, examining contemporary art encompassing media such as painting, drawing, video, installation and writing.
His oeuvre is marked by a representational visual language and a strong conceptual foundation. Delk is best known for his oil paintings, examining nature and the human condition from a universal, contemporary and anthropological point of view. Recurring concepts throughout his works are existentialism, neo-surrealism, melancholy, appropriation, post-conceptualism, post-modernism, and a continuous search for the iconic in found imagery.
Delk intends to participate in solo and group exhibitions while continuing to create and expand his portfolio.
